The Open Spoon
everyone brings something to the table
The Open Spoon
is a full moon gathering to connect with your friends and neighbors through local food, stories, and nature. It’s a fun way to appreciate and share what is happening in nature through the seasons.
Each moon has a theme, and in the spirit of cultivating reciprocity, everyone brings something to the table around that theme, whether it is a story, food, helping set up or clean up, or your kind supportive energy to show interest in others and help make everyone feel welcomed and appreciated.
Think of it like a DIY farm-to-table dinner, rooted in reciprocity, where everybody brings something to the table.
Recent Features:
Rituals to connect to nature’s cadence and your community
Nature
We make table arrangements and set the table with a seasonal selection of plants that grow around us.
Food
We bring dishes inspired by the theme and the local food that is growing or available at that time.
Story
We pass around a wooden spoon as a ‘microphone’ to share stories about times we experienced the theme in our own lives
Guiding Values
Relational over Transactional
This is a place to share what inspires us, ask questions, and learn more about each other and the places around us. If somebody asks for a resource that you offer, it's fine to offer your professional services, but it is not a place for unsolicited promotion and selling.
Kindness over Judgement
This is a place for people with shared desires but different perspectives to feel welcome, including different politics and religion. When we share our personal experiences, we always do it in a way where we maintain dignity for groups of people who may have differing experiences or beliefs than us, and we never make fun of a group of people.
Reciprocity over Extraction
As part of being in relationship with the greater ecosystem around us, we are mindful of what we are receiving and what we are giving back. If we benefit from somebody else's generosity, we look for ways to return it. If we are asking for something, we are mindful of the energy requested, and always offer a way to return the energy.
We post a toolkit on our blog for each moon:
