The Open Spoon is a potluck of local stories, food, and nature every full moon. Think of it like a DIY Farm To Table event where everybody who comes is a part of creating the event. I like to call it earth church, because we are creating neighborhood rituals that follow the cadence of nature, rather than man-made calendars. In that way, it’s a fun way to connect back to the cycles of nature and start to train your attention to notice what is happening in each season and cycle. It also gives attendees a chance to be a participant, not just a recipient. You’re going to feel a lot more connected to the event and your community if you had to go find some local food yourself for the event! Each moon has a seasonal theme, inspired by the full moon’s names, seasonal happenings, and is pulled from the shared human needs of Non-Violent Communication. Attendance is free but in the spirit of cultivating a mindset of reciprocity, we encourage everyone to bring something to the table, whether it is a story, food, helping set up or clean up, or your kind supportive energy to show interest in others and help make everyone feel welcomed and appreciated.

May: Flower Moon

In May, roots deepen and the first abundance blooms. May is known as the flower moon, this is a time when what’s been growing beneath the surface starts to fully blossom.

May 1: Community

May’s first full moon focuses on Community as we celebrate the relationships and networks that allow us to flourish. Bring a dish or story inspired by your own interpretation of the theme, or visit a local farm store to see what’s in season around you. Our feature dish will highlight mushrooms, nature's reminder that everything is connected and we all rely on each other.

May 31: Support

May’s second full moon focuses on Support as we celebrate the things that blossom when life is nourished. Bring a dish or story inspired by your own interpretation of the theme, or visit a local farm store to see what’s in season around you. Our feature dish will highlight asparagus and rhubarb, some of the supportive stalks in season this time of year.
